Quirky colleagues and annoying bosses (or for the freelancers out there, maybe clients?) are part and parcel of most offices anywhere in the world. You’re lucky if you get one or the other, but if you have both, then you can almost guarantee no drama-free days at work! Perhaps that’s why the comedy franchise My Stupid Boss has been so popular. Following two super-popular movies, My Stupid Boss (2016) and My Stupid Boss 2 (2019), Bossman, Kerani and the rest of the gang are back in My Stupid Boss: The Animated Series. The success of the movies has often been attributed to the fact that it is relatable – it was, after all, a series of novels by Chaos@work, a mysterious writer who understandably chooses to go under this pseudonym. Now, in animated form, those relatable problems are not only portrayed in crazier and wilder setups, you also get more to watch with 13 episodes streaming on VIDIO.

If you have always been a big fan of the My Stupid Boss movies as well as the characters and actors, then you’ll be glad to know that the original actors are back as the voices of their on-screen personas in the animated version. Indonesian actors Reza Rahadian and Bunga Citra Lestari provide the voices of Boss man and Kerani, respectively, while the Malaysian actors from the movies are also back with Bront Palarae as Adrian, Datin Atikah Suhaime as Norasikin, Chew Kin Wah as Mr Kho and Iskandar Zulkarnain as Azhari. As can be seen in the behind-the-scenes video, the team still has it!

What You’ll Love About The Show

  • Super-relatable: For anyone who has worked in a team environment, the office life depicted in My Stupid Boss: The Animated Series would be super relatable. In a way, it promotes solidarity with other office workers when you recognise your office colleagues and boss in the show, and know that this happens to other people, too. As the saying goes: “Bossman is every bad boss. Kerani is all of us.”
  • Meanwhile, from the absurdity of the boss’ requests and logic-thinking, to the colleagues with their individuals quirks and everyday drama, the effect is amplified in the shape of animation as it allows for out-of-this-world expressions and movements.
  • If you’re actually experiencing a similar situation at work, you’ll appreciate the satire peppered liberally in the show. You might also be thankful that your office will never be as bad as this.
  • Finally, you’ll appreciate being able to just let loose and laugh out loud at something that you probably know all too well. The jokes are fresh and funny but also will somehow feel familiar and feel-good.
  • When else can you LOL at the boss’?
