Working in marketing communications, especially for a big corporation, a woman basically has to be a Jill-of-all-trades. This may not be reflected in a person’s job title, but it can certainly be seen in all the work done behind the scenes, how the communications department has direct ties to all the other departments in a company, and essentially all the skills across different fields and disciplines needed to get the job done well.
This is very much proven by what Wang Siew Leng does at Momentus Hotels & Resorts as Director of Public Relations & Marketing Communications. Here, Wang shares with MWAH about her responsibilities at work and also how she achieves work-life balance by doing what she does well: deliver effective communication, both at work and at home, and her take on this year’s International Women’s Day theme: #AccelerateAction
Could you share a bit of what you do as Director of Public Relations & Marketing Communications at Momentus Hotels & Resorts?

In my role, I closely monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and brand sentiment, adjusting strategies based on performance. I collaborate with agencies and internal teams to ensure alignment on branding, PR, and marketing communications. I engage with journalists, influencers, and media partners to secure brand coverage and oversee press releases, PR pitches, and strategic storytelling efforts.
I also manage reputation and crisis communications, closely monitoring guest feedback across online platforms and addressing concerns swiftly. My involvement extends to events and stakeholder engagement, strengthening relationships through media events, networking functions, and brand activations. I ensure all brand-level PR, marketing content and campaign rollouts are aligned and on track, setting the tone for success moving forward.
In your role, how do you determine the brand’s voice and how does that impact women in hospitality, at least at Momentus Hotels & Resorts?
This voice is transformative in shaping a more inclusive and supportive environment. At Momentus Hotels & Resorts, we actively champion gender equality and create an environment where individuals have the opportunity to thrive. Initiatives such as celebrating achievements, offering self-care and appreciation activities and fostering an open-door policy for feedback empower our employees to feel heard, valued, and recognised for their contributions. These efforts go beyond just words; they are a call to action, encouraging our team to grow, lead, and succeed within the organisation.

How do you maintain a work-life balance? Especially being in the hospitality field where, understandably, work might extend beyond official office hours.
Maintaining a work-life balance, especially in the hospitality field, is challenging but essential. As responsibilities grow, it is easy to let work take over, but the greatest responsibility always lies at home—with your family and with yourself. Setting clear boundaries and consciously carving out time for those who matter most is crucial.
Open communication plays a key role: By clearly outlining expectations with your team and setting effective workflows, you reduce miscommunication and improve efficiency. This approach does not just apply to work; it is equally valuable at home. Clear communication helps strengthen family relationships and ensures smoother interactions.
Being present for your family, even in small ways, makes all the difference: Whether it is a quick hug in the morning, a brief conversation in the evening, or a check-in with your parents, these moments are what matter most. Making small adjustments to your schedule, like rescheduling work engagements to avoid missing significant family moments, shows that you prioritise your loved ones.
Setting non-negotiable ‘time outs’ for yourself is vital: It is easy to get lost in the constant flow of work and family commitments, but dedicating time to recharge—whether it is yoga, nature walks, or mindfulness practices like a Chinese tea ceremony—helps you reset and come back stronger. It is these moments of self-care that fuel your energy and focus, ensuring you can give your best both at work and at home.

What are your thoughts on #AccelerateAction? Does this call-to-action resonate with you, and if yes, how?
#AccelerateAction resonates deeply with me. Taking that first step requires courage, and it’s the foundation for everything that follows. Believing in the cause—whether it’s a personal mission or one shared with a team—it is essential to keep pushing forward, even when the journey becomes challenging. Staying observant, embracing feedback, and adjusting strategies along the way are crucial for continuous progress. I believe it is also vital to celebrate the small wins, as they build momentum and reinforce the commitment to the goal. In the end, achieving a win-win for all stakeholders, not just the outcome, is what truly defines success.

Lastly, could you share a lesson you have learned from an inspiring woman who has helped shape your leadership today?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned early in my career came from my first superior in hospitality. She didn’t talk about leadership—she demonstrated it through action. She showed me that to lead with impact, you must act with integrity, be proactive, lead with fairness, show empathy, and embrace graciousness. Her example shaped the way I approach leadership today—by taking initiative, having the courage to voice unpopular opinions for the greater good of the organisation and the people I lead, even if it means standing alone, making purposeful decisions, and fostering a culture where authenticity and inclusivity drive meaningful action.
