Of all the tasks involved in working on a visual project – especially a video project, be it for work, study or play, video editing might just be one of the most tedious tasks to complete on your smartphone. However, most of the time you have no choice but to do it on the phone even if what’s in your hand may not exactly be the best phone for video editing.

(Let’s take a moment of silence here for the almost obsolete desktops for non-specialised work, which we know might not fare better when it comes to video-editing unless you have a specialised machine for that. Fare thee well, oh banging on the side of the CPU when the processor runs a bit slow just before suddenly serving you the blue screen of death)
Right! Where were we? Oh yes! Working on the best phone for video editing. Well, yes, that phone might also cost an arm and a leg!
However, the next best thing might just be good enough. Thanks to modern technology – namely more efficient production lines, improvements in research and development processes, more efficient logistics and transportation, as well as the discovery of cheaper labour outside of the Western world, high-performing smartphones with the most advanced specs are now available from lesser known brands at a much lower price-point than their household name counterparts.

Enter The iQOO 13

Recently, we had the honour of attending the launch of the iQOO 13 at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC). To be honest, this isn’t a brand that would be on our radar when it comes to high-performing smartphones, but being able to witness the presentation and getting to know its features, don’t be surprised if this is the next phone any of us buys one day. The iQOO 13 certainly stands out for its sturdy features – able to withstand extreme temperatures and rough-and-tumble situations (more on this below) – but it also scores points in the imaging department, as well as its processor’s prowess, most notably in the lack of lag even when running a heavy app. Perhaps that is why the iQOO brand is more well-known among gamers compared to us civilians.

The hero of the iQOO 13 is the Snapdragon® 8 Elite processor, which is outfitted with Qualcomm’s self-developed Oryon architecture. Among some of its winning features that make it more than capable of handling heavy graphics and app multitasking are as follows:-
- 2+6 all-big-core configuration
- Peak frequency of 4.32 Ghz for that seamless multitasking, rapid responsiveness and unprecedented processing experience
- Massive 23 MB L2 cache for efficient handling of all applications
- Snapdragon® 8 Elite GPU that vastly improves concurrent performance as well as power efficiency(!)
- Utilisation of Samsung’s LPDDR5X Ultra memory for processing speed
- UFS 4.1 storage(1) technology for a 50% speed boost compared to the UFS 4.0
- GMEM (Graphics Memory) for optimised memory management
- Open MPAM interface for accelerated workflow
- AFME 2.0 and Hardware Ray Tracing for improved visual clarity and performance
- AI capabilities that increase NPU (Neural Processing Unit) inference speed and reduce power consumption
- The benefits of Qualcomm’s joint tuning and engineering efficiency

Primarily marketed towards gamers, non-gamers also stand to benefit from the iQOO 13 with its dual-chip setup. Whatever app you’re running on the phone, iQOO’s Supercomputing Chip Q2 coupled with the Snapdragon® 8 Elite processor ensures smooth operations with virtually no lag.
Of course, using the phone for leisure, whether for gaming or watching movies of videos, it’s sure to be a pleasant experience with all the features of the iQOO 13 that include 8T LTPO display with 2K (1440 x 3168) resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 4500 nits, Zero-Latency Frame Interpolation, High-Fidelity Frame Interpolation, Ultra-Wide Vibration Motor and Symmetrical Drum Master Speakers.
Photography Prowess Of The iQOO 13
Despite the top-of-line features of the iQOO 13, though, any modern entrepreneur worth their salt would be very much aware that the best processing capabilities on the planet might be useless on a smartphone if it doesn’t take the best pictures. So, how does the imaging capabilities of the iQOO 13 stack up?

Not too badly, it seems. With the advantage of being one of the lines under vivo as the main brand (along with Oppo, Realme and OnePlus), the iQOO 13 as the flagship phone of its line benefits from being able to incorporate the same camera as vivo’s flagship devices.
As far as mobile photography goes, the iQOO 13 has been outfitted to capture sharp, high-definition images across all focal lengths, with optical settings of 0.6x, 1x, 2x, and 4x with up to 30x zoom. In terms of street photography and multifocal portrait, the integration of flagship-grade VCS (vivo Camera-bionic Spectrum) and NICE 2.0 algorithm allows for clear images at multiple focal lengths, sharper and more dynamic night photos, and better defined texture in photography.
Why The iQOO 13 Might Be The Best Phone For Video Editing
As mentioned, the iQOO 13 is equipped with pretty powerful processors that can handle heavy operations, imaging, graphics and movements, and its camera is not too shabby for a phone that’s more geared towards gaming – thanks to vivo’s flagship VCS and camera technology. However, where the iQOO 13 might prove to be more valuable is in its durability and sturdiness.

The iQOO 13 is basically the device version of your rough and tumble cowboy who can withstand anything, and that’s what makes this probably the best phone for video editing under a certain budget, in our humble opinion. Technically, the next feature we’re sharing has more to do with capturing photos or recording videos…. in extreme temperatures!
During the launch of the iQOO 13, the display area featured two interesting exhibits. The iQOO 13 in a extremely hot setting of 45.9 degrees Celcius and another model in an extremely cold setting of -13.5 degrees Celcius. We definitely felt the extreme heat and coldness of both displays, and took photos with care using our standard-issue phone.

Looking at the extreme temperature application of the iQOO 13, though, you can see the possibilities of taking striking and engaging videos and photos that bring the audience into your images. Imagine a baker who can now take photos or videos of her wares baking in the hot oven without fear of damaging your phone. Or getting your lifestyle or “inspirational” videos in cold, snowy environments without fear of condensation or crystallisation.
Furthermore, the iQOO 13 also holds an “ingress protection” rating of IP69, which is the highest level rating for consumer devices. With this rating, rest assured that this device is dust-tight, water-repellant and can even withstand extreme aggressions such as high-pressure water jets and high-temperature steam cleaning tests.

Commonly, IP69 rating is often found in machines such as food processing equipment, medical devices, agricultural machinery and industrial equipment. We envision similar situations for the intrepid entrepreneur, but with a more consumer focus. As mentioned before, you’ll have peace of mind when taking images in extremely hot or cold temperatures. Meanwhile, fashion photo shoots by the side of the road can also be done with more ease and speed – or perhaps you need to take action shots for a more robust content video.
And when you’re all done, you can edit right there and then on your phone with ease without worrying about storage, speed, lag, or anything else you can think of that might hamper phone or video loading performance. Ultimately, this is why we think this might be the best phone for video editing in the market right now for those with a budget to stick to but want to get a flagship phone with all the bells and whistles.

Price Of The iQOO 13
Since this is a flagship phone – one that is in a partnership with BMW M Motorsport, no less, the price for the iQOO 13 is of course reflective of this flagship status, but still under the mid-range of budgets. Thus, the Legend (white) version with the iconic tri-colour stripe associated with the BMW M and the Alpha (black) version – both with the innovative Monster Halo floating light effect around the camera bezel that pulses with games and music, comes in at RM3,499 for the 12G + 256GB model (available exclusively online), while the 16GB + 512 model is priced at RM3,699.
To purchase online, do visit iQOO Malaysia’s Official Online Store, Shopee, Lazada or pre-order at any authorised retailers. #iQOO13 #MonsterInside #Snapdragon8Elite #iQOOMY
